I’m supposed to post about this last Wednesday, but since I’m still resizing some unboxing pics, I postponed posting about my new Asus Eee PC 1005HA Seashell netbook until now. Well, I still don’t have the pics resized though lol.

After much thought on whether to buy a Quad core desktop or a netbook, i prefer to buy the Asus eee first, then later on (maybe next year), my quad core desktop.

Right now, this is what I need (ok enough of the justification). My Toshiba laptop is still enough for my development works.

I bought the one bundled with Windows 7, which was really hard to find since I browsed and called almost all the computer stores I know, and its just only 2 which has this particular bundle. Villman Computers and Octagon (SM Manila). The one bundled with Windows XP has lesser HDD and memory capacity.

Octagon Sm Manila is more accessible from my place so I went there and bought the unit.

I have been planning to buy one, and still contemplating if I am going to pursue buying one.

I am eyeing for Asus eee 1005HA Sea Shell or 1008HA- Sea Shell and sure that either is the one that will suit my needs, but I am still having second thoughts. Why? because I still have Phoenix and Fire , my NEO and Toshiba Laptops lol.

Then, why in the world do I need to buy a new netbook?

I need to monitor my online sales, which I can’t do when I am on the go, or while in the office, since most of the sites that are not ‘work’ related are blocked (including mails)

I need to edit an excel file which serves as a debit and credit tracking, which right now, I can’t do unless I’ll transfer the said file back and forth when I am at home or in the office.

I need a light weight laptop that I can carry around where ever I want to go.

hmmmm what else…

So, Do I really need to buy a new netbook?

I bought Phoenix, My NEO ENDURA 531NLi laptop, last May, and after seven months, with at least 6 hours of daily usage, I’m proud to say that I am still using my NEO laptop as I type this post

NEO ENDURA 531NLi Review
(after 7 months of usage)

Battery life lasts for a little over 3 hours

A change in temperature at the lower left side. I guess I forgot to mention this earlier on my previous review. It turns a bit hot on that area, but really tolerable.

Same features and performance as before.

Check my Neo Laptop review, Check T3 Review

Just yesterday, I left it turned on overnight without plugging the charger, so when I woke up, the battery is already exhausted. When I turned it on, I encountered a ‘Blue screen’ error ( I guess most of you know what it is, others call it blue screen of death). I tried to reboot using safe mode but I encountered the same error. I tried the last known good configuration, but the same error occured. I tried other options available but none of these had worked.

I checked the error but nothing hardware related (as I understand it). So i have no other option but to reinstall my OS. So there.. I already reinstalled windows and everything went back to normal. I reformatted by drive C so most of my local blogs versions are gone.

Since this is a new life for Phoenix haha, I decided to upgrade its memory. I called Compex-SM San Lazaro branch to ask for the upgrade price ( since its the nearest Mall in our place), but unfortunately they said that the memory that I inquired is not available, I’m not sure though if the product is not available or the service is not available or whatever, since the girl who had answered my call seems lost haha.

My other option, Octagon-SM San Lazaro. They ask for the capacity that I want to add, and told me the price. So I immediately packed my laptop and headed to SM San Lazaro. When I arrived there, a staff assisted me, some few verifications and he installed an additional 512MB of memory on my laptop. The memory upgrade costs me PHP1,581.00. The installation is free. I’m really satisfied with their service so I really recommend them, you can reach Octagon SM San Lazaro Branch at 786-2468.

So there.. Phoenix is still alive, stronger and more powerful haha… should I name it Dark Phoenix now? haha Naaa!

Anyway, here’s another addition to the NEO Laptop family, but this time in ‘Vivid’ colors!!

Yes, The NEO Vivid series is available in Classy White, Eccentric Yellow, Pink Fashion, Innocent Green and Corporate Black colors.

The new addition to the Vivid series is the Empriva 672RVP which is packed with Intel’s Core 2 duo processor , 2GB memory and 160GB storage. How’s that for a zen smooth style. Something that a techiegirl would not mind flaunting.

Specifications:

I’m not a fan of small screens specifically when you’re not going to bring your laptop outside, but with a 12.1″ screen size, NEO Vivid would definitely give a techiegirl power while on the go.

As stated in NEO website, this is also packed with limited edition HSDPA feature that would take you from local to global.

It’s up to you on what type of MacBook to choose. It all depends on what you are looking for in a Mac Laptop and what you want to do with it.

One notable difference between MacBook and MacBook Pro (aside from the obvious screen size) is their graphics circuitry. All MacBook version is using this thing called shared-memory. The display system borrows 64MB of RAM from the system as a working space. Unlike the Pro version that has his own dedicated space for display calculations. So if you are a game fanatic the Pro version is for you.

The MacBook Pro version also features an ambient light sensors, which is useful during changes of light around you. If the light turns dim, the brightness of the screen automatically adjusted and the keyboard is illuminated.

I think the absence of an internal modem doesnt hurt that much since there are other connectivity options for the entire selection.

If you are to buy the Pro version, a cooling pad is a must buy since the MacBook Pro got an aluminum case, that is said to conduct heat more easily as compared to other Apple laptops with plastic shell.

Later release of Mac Laptops can now able to use the windows operating system, so if you are a first time Apple laptop user, you may opt to use that feature alongside with the Mac OS.

Price:

2.0GHz MacBook – $1,099.00

2.16GHz MacBook – White: $1,299.0; Black: $1,499.00

Maybe you’re wondering why I’m posting it here hehe, this is a follow up article on my first post under the Laptop category. Yes my very own phoenix, my NEO Endura 531NLi Lappy.

I remember the time when i had decided to buy a laptop, it was really hard to choose which brand and specs to consider that would best fit my needs and my budget. I had asked the opinion of my colleagues and friends, at the same time had searched the internet for feedbacks and reviews. Sad to say there are only few sites that features products under the NEO brand. Not to mention, bad comments from my officemates, since it’s a stereotype that when a brand is not that popular or is new, it is always correlated to bad or poor performance.

Well that was then, and I guess today’s buyers doesn’t have to experience the same dilemma that i had.

Good thing T3 Magazine (The world’s No. 1 Gadget Magazine), features on their August Issue, a sort of buyer’s guide in buying a budget laptop. They reviewed 4 laptops from different brands that falls under their category:

What we looked for

A sub-40,000 price tag. Each Laptop’s ability to pack in features and performance power at this price point is what we were after. Extra features are big pluses.

Source: T3 Magazine, August Issue

BLUE Aurum NW – P39,999.00

ASUS A9RP – P30,000.00

RED FOX Duranote – P37,000.00

NEO Endura 531NLi – P35,999.00

Of course i’ll be focusing on the NEO Endura 531NLi lappy hehe

Here’s what T3 has to say:

NEO’s ENDURA 531NLi can be, at most, called fair. But if you’re a pessimist and pretty strict on finding the right Vista-equipped laptop, then the 531NLi is your best option at this price range.

I am excited to type the whole thing from the magazine, but i guess you better buy your own copy haha. To sum it up 531NLi is tagged as the T3 Test Winner, and got a 5-star rating (highest).
