I am currently revamping this site’s look and actually in the process of making it mobile ready , part of which is the addition of a QR Code.

So what is a QR Code?

I’m actually starting to get familiar with this image of a square with patterns in a white background. If you haven’t seen one, here’s a visual example:

QR Code is short for quick response barcode. It is another type of bar code that we are actually familiar with (you know, the one with lines?). What make it really different aside from the obvious is that, it can be easily scanned by anyone with a smart phone!

How does the cellphone read the QR Code?

In order to read QR codes , your cellphone needs a camera and a QR code reader. You can easily download one from the Market (android users) or from the app store. I am currently using an app simply called ‘barcode reader’.

Uses for QR Codes

You can embed a lot of information inside a QR code, information such as website URL, cellphone numbers, email addresses and a lot more. These allows you to easily visit a website, send sms to a number or even send email simply after scanning a QR code.

How to generate QR Codes

These process is made simple to us by qr code api available from QR code generators out there. There are several sites available to make QR code generation easy, so easy that anyone can actually create his own QR code.

Just go back to the QR code above. It is generated by an online qr code maker and is linked to this blog’s mobile site. Try to scan it using your mobile phone’s barcode reader to see for yourself

Using QR Code is actually new, and there are still a lot of people not familiar with it. But I think in time, these are the ones we’re gonna see on newspapers, magazines and other form of media, which will bring product details, company contact numbers and other information closer to the public.

This is in assumption that you had done your homework to know the advantages and disadvantages of using WCDMA only option

How to Force Your Android Phone To Use WCDMA Only

Open the PHONE app

Dial the following..

*#*#4636#*#*

this should bring you to a menu, just  select ‘Phone information’

Browse down, until you see the ‘Set preferred network type’

Click the drop down and select ‘WCDMA ONLY” option

That’s it.. just select the back or home button.. that should give you a 3G/H signal all the time.

Jolicloud first impression

• Installation is simple. You need a fast internet connection though, since it would take you more than 20minutes to download the latest version.
• User friendly, but not  friendly enough lol!. On the first screens, It will ask you to connect to the internet. I got confused in this stage. Luckily, there are icons at the top that I could click lol.
• Upon successfully connecting to a WIFi network, (used my desire mobile hotspot capability) everything is easy.
• My internet connection is incredibly blazing fast.. am I exaggerating here? lol! I don’t know. This is the fastest that I ever experienced so far lol!
• I don’t want to switch back to Windows.
• I wan’t to install it on one of my laptops (other than this netbook). Dunno if my Neo laptop is compatible though.
• Imagine youtube without the buffering thing! I’m not sure if my internet connection is having a miracle this morning lol. Been trying tethering for quite some time and its  not this fast
• Love love love this OS

Important UPDATE: This tutorial is created when the latest Android SDK was still version r06, please download the file android-sdk_r06-windows.zip instead of the latest (r08) for the below instruction to work, otherwise, you’ll be getting an “adb’ is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file.” error.

If you prefer or had downloaded r08, install the new SDK component called Platform-tools. adb should be there. If this is the case, run adb from Platform-tools instead from the tools folder as stated below.

How to force apps to install on your SD card

Requirements:

Preparation Steps

On your Computer:

• Download the Android SDK Files here.
• Extract the downloaded files to any location (i.e C:\android\sdk).
• Install HTC  Sync (if not yet installed) and test if HTC Desire can connect to your computer  (this step is actually optional, but install it just to make sure  your device can connect to your computer)

On your Cellphone (I’m using HTC Desire):

• Click Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Check Unknown Sources
• Click Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Check USB Debugging

Actual Steps

• Plug your mobile phone to your computer, When asked to choose connection type, tick Disk Drive.
• Wait till your computer install the appropriate drivers and recognize your device.
• Go to the command line (run cmd.exe)
• Go to the folder where you extracted the SDK file (Assuming you extracted the SDK files in C:\android\sdk).
• Go to tools folder (sdkr06) OR to platform-tools folder (sdkr08)
• type adb devices. This should display the serial number of your device.

Your screen should look like this:

• Once your device is already detected, type the following command (case sensitive):

adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2

• Your screen should look like this:

The setInstallLocation command changes the default install location based on the one you specified. Here are the parameter conventions:

Done. Done.

For Existing Apps that are saved on your internal memory, Do This:

1. In your mobile phone, Go to Menu–> Settings –> Applications –> Manage Applications
2. All apps installed will be displayed. Click one by one and select Move to SD Card. These are the ones that by default you cannot move to SD card (option is disabled). Just make sure these apps are safe to move to your external storage.

For succeeding downloads, Apps will be saved automatically to your external storage

Tip: For your screen widgets, it is advisable to install them in your phone memory.

i had the same problem before i got my phone. inisip ko rin mag samsung galaxy s. inaamin ko na masmaganda sa features ang samsung kasi:
* faster ang processing nya – playing doom in samsung is alot smoother than in the desire (pero im not into playing games)
* capable mag video call ang samsung galaxy s, sa htc desire walang video call – pero i never did use this feature on my old phone, and besides i have a second phone that can do video calls naman so i can just use that incase i need it
* mas magaan ang samsung galaxy
* malaki ang internal memory ng samsung galaxy s

pero pinili ko parin mag desire dahil:
* when i saw my friend’s galaxy, gawa lang pala sa plastic yung phone, it felt so cheap on my hands, parang hindi worth 32,000
* samsung does’t support their phones. I got a samsung jet august of last year, and until now wala silang nilalabas na new widget for it or any software update. baka pabayaan din nila yung galaxy. buti pa ang desire may froyo update, ang samsung wala (pa) at hindi ako sure kung magkakaron
* i dont like the icons ng galaxy, parang trying hard maging iphone kasi naka box din yung icons, plus pa side din yung sweep ng icons nila, parang sa iphone
* ang daming murang samsung na phone, and if my phone looked cheap because of the plastic, people might think na cheap din cya. iba kasi yung feel ng htc, rubber and metal siya kaya mukhang mahal

tingnan mo muna kung ano mas importante sayo. kasi i think both have their selling points, depende na sayo yon kung ano yung mas mahalaga sayo

How to connect your myphone Q21 to your PC?

1. On idle screen, plug in your phone to your PC using the provided USB cable.
2. Phone:  you will be asked for the USB configuration, just select ‘COM PORT’
3. Install the USB Cable driver on your PC (also provided in the CD)
4. PC: Go to Control Panel – > Device Manager
5. Check entry for ‘Ports (Com and LPT1), USB Modem Driver (COM<n>). Take note of the Communication port specified (e.g. COM13).
6. Run Phone suite application.
7. Go to Settings. On the General Tab, select mobile phone type (176×220 or 220×176 doesn’t matter I think). Then, select the COM port defined in the device manager.
8. Go to Create Connection Tab. Click the [Create] button. Modem in Com Port 13 should be added in the list.
9. 
10. PhoneSuite should then be able to connect with your phone and the message ‘Connected’ should be displayed at the lower right corner of your screen.
11. If not, disconnect the USB cable and reconnect.
12. Done. Pardon for some grammatical errors and cluttered display, this is a quick post

Here’s my current setup:

Laptop Model: Toshiba Satellite M100
OS: Windows Vista Home Basic (32bit)
Memory: 4GB

Problems Encountered:

• Installation Successful (but with errors, you know what  I mean haha)
• Upon execution, Photoshop will display an error saying “Some of the application components are missing from the application directory, Please reinstall the application”
• Program will terminate after that.
• Even you reinstall photoshop and other components, you will receive the same bugging error every time you try to run Adobe Photoshop.

The Solution:

Here’s what I did, I had actually done several steps, though I can’t identify which of them actually causes the problem, nevertheless, I made it worked lol! . Make sure that you are not connected to the internet upon doing this for you will going to disable some applications that will put your system on risk.

• If you will check the details of the error after the setup, you will see some error related to “language” something. I made sure that my system is using “ENGLISH (US)” language. This can be set on Control Panel -> Regional and Language options
• Disable or stop “Bonjour” service (not required if the said service does not exists) . Go to Control Panel -> Admistrative Tools -> Services -> Bonjour Service then click stop. (Got this suggestion on some forum, I really forgot where for I was in the office when I saw this)
• Disable your Firewall or Internet Security Software
• If you already installed Adobe Photoshop CS4, uninstall and reinstall. Make sure to choose “ENGLISH (US)” as your prefered language.
• Installation should be successful (without errors)
• Enable everything and connect to the internet to activate Photoshop

Note: Language settings is not necessarily required to be english (US), just make sure you’ll use the same language as defined on your Language settings
