Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband

Last Updated: 02/26/2011
I am a Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband postpaid subscriber for almost 2 years now (as indicated by the create date of this post). I decided to update this entry since most of the information is kinda outdated. Given that, here is my complete review of Sun Cellular wireless broadband service.

Sun Broadband Wireless Postpaid Plan

I initially availed the easy broadband plan, which I paid PHP1895.00 (May 2009), but now the SBW modem only costs Php888.00 (Feb. 2011).

After a few months, I switched to SBW Plan 649 Bundle since I am a Sun postpaid line subscriber too.
Monthly fee – PHP 649.00 on top of Postpaid MSF
Burstable Speed – up to 2mbps
Internet Usage – Unlimited
Modem Charge: No Modem Charge
Holding Period: 12 Months

Connectivity and Speed

Here are some speed test comparisons of Smart Bro and Sun Broadband Wireless on different server locations (taken 05/14/2009):

As of the update date of this post, I can say that the internet speed is not the same as the above speed test results. There are times in a day where connection is super slow. Usually between 10am – 8pm. The connection is ok and a bit fast at night time until around 9am.

I am still bound with a contract until August if I’m not mistaken. Until then will I decide if I’ll stick with my Sun Cellular wireless broadband subscription or not.

Just dropped by to share my experience. I got Sun Broadband ( Unlimited ) at sa first days ng paggamit, everything’s OK. Andito lang ako sa Ortigas center mismo. Sa 16th floor MegaPlaza harap ng Executive Tower Pero after 3 weeks, napapansin ko na di na ko makakuha ng WCDMA. Puro HSDPA na lang tapos ang bagal. Imagine a download speed – 13.5kbps and sometimes, drops the connection. Nung nagsubscribe ako, they asked me if my place is in an inner area, i said di naman. The fact is pagbukas ng bintana eh harap ko na yung sinasabi nilang Tower sa Executive Tower.

Sun told us that Metro Manila is covered with a fast connection pero palagay ko, matutuwa ka lang sa first days ng subscription.

No offense to Sun fanatics ^_^

    Hi,
I am a SBW subscriber for almost 1 month na. I do the speedtest every now and then, and here are the average results:
    Ping: 500-600
    Download: 1.5-2.5 Mbps
    Upload: .05-.2 Mbps
For me, hindi masyadong factor yung speed as of now but i tell you guys, connection thru SBW drops almost every hour without you knowing it. Kung prepaid ka, Yari ka but if you’re on unlimited ok lang. Pero factor pa rin frequent disconnections. Another thing that my connection does is, while i am connected, suddenly, it will show up a pop-up window saying that ‘The device has been disconnected’ and that window will stay for about a minute or two. Annoying if you are doing something. After that window goes away, anothing window pops up saying ‘Detecting device’, another minute or two uli. Unfortunately, when get those popup windows, you can’t move them to the side so that you can continue what you’re doing, hazzle talaga. I consulted their technical team, but almost 3 weeks na, no show pa rin sila. Also, technical people are not so technical at all, they don’t even know how to isolate a problem, PC ba o modem? They’ll ask you to check settings hanggang i-suggest na nila na ire-image mo system mo. Tama ba yun? They’re basically telling you that their device is not the problem, so either your PC/Laptop has a problem o ikaw na ang may problema. I’m not planning of staying with SBW for long, i’m just consuming my load that i bought for 1800+ with free modem.
To Sun technical and sales, sorry for being rude but you’re not doing your job well and your company doesn’t deserve to last for another year or two.

    Hi arlene (Klyn)
I wonder kung taga saan ka?
It would be more helpful if you provide your location for us to know on which location SBW is not working well.

hi…i just bought sun wireless broadband. i use sun pag on the go ako. i have smartbro at home. lahat ng 3G modems nagdedepend yan sa base stations ng bawat carrier. i understand your frustrations people. with my experience kasi with smartbro,so perfect for the last 3 years up to present. why? malapit kasi ako sa base station ng smart. yung sun ko hindi abot sa house ko kasi METROWIDE ang coverage ng SUN BROADBAND. advisable siyang gamitin sa bahay kung malapit ka sa base station. technically speaking, kung hindi abot ng base station ang area mo,ka pagong talaga ang connection mo. its still advisable na may separate ISP tayo for home use such as dsl, cable or smartbro canopy tapos pag on the go ka, keri naman ang tatoo, smartbro at sun broadband 3G/HSDPA modems.

hay grabe!! since the activation of my SBW plan grabe puro problema lang dinulot sakin.. Sobrang bagal ng connection dinaig pa ang dial-up connection. The price I pay is not worth from their service.. Actually during the first 3 days of this plan i try to talk to the agent kung pwedeng mairefund kahit ung modem fee lang pero kung ano anong sinasabi nila.. hay.. grabe waste of money, waste of time.. waste of electricity sa sobrang bagal.. Kaya BEWARE of this Sun Broadband.. Dont ever try to subscribe or switch…………

  10. Hello ate! :)

I think, you should’ve stick to Smart Bro. Ako po mismo gumagamit ng DSL from Digitel (their parent company) at naku, maswerte na kung may isang araw na tuloy-tuloy ang connection. Wala pa nga one week mula nang una ko itong ginamit eh may problem agad. Their customer service was good but all that they can promise me is to ‘report it immediately’ to the proper authorities.

Still, nothing happened since then. I’m already planning to switch to PLDT kapag medyo nakaipon na ako. Puro sakit ng ulo lang dala ng Digitel, haay..

I just hope you won’t experience the same problems by using their Sun Wireless Broadband.
