Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband

Last Updated: 02/26/2011
I am a Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband postpaid subscriber for almost 2 years now (as indicated by the create date of this post). I decided to update this entry since most of the information is kinda outdated. Given that, here is my complete review of Sun Cellular wireless broadband service.

Sun Broadband Wireless Postpaid Plan

I initially availed the easy broadband plan, which I paid PHP1895.00 (May 2009), but now the SBW modem only costs Php888.00 (Feb. 2011).

After a few months, I switched to SBW Plan 649 Bundle since I am a Sun postpaid line subscriber too.
Monthly fee – PHP 649.00 on top of Postpaid MSF
Burstable Speed – up to 2mbps
Internet Usage – Unlimited
Modem Charge: No Modem Charge
Holding Period: 12 Months

Connectivity and Speed

Here are some speed test comparisons of Smart Bro and Sun Broadband Wireless on different server locations (taken 05/14/2009):

As of the update date of this post, I can say that the internet speed is not the same as the above speed test results. There are times in a day where connection is super slow. Usually between 10am – 8pm. The connection is ok and a bit fast at night time until around 9am.

I am still bound with a contract until August if I’m not mistaken. Until then will I decide if I’ll stick with my Sun Cellular wireless broadband subscription or not.

nung gamit ko smartbro ng utol ko, nagdodownload ako ng 100mb every hour and it only took 15-20mins to finish..

NOT for downloading files..

    • Amy says:

Most of the time mabagal nga.. there are times though na nakakatyempo ako ng over 100 kbps dl speed.. very rare though

      • pongscript says:

I don’t know about the 1mb download.. pero Im downloading 50mb+ of file. 2/10 attemps of my usual download will fail. due to sobrang bagal. pero if it push to download 50mb+ usually takes up to 5~6minutes. which I guess is reasonable. minsan may araw na hindi talaga ako makapag internet sa sobrang bagal pero sa mobile, medyo mabagal pa rin.. pero atleast nakakapagfacebook ako at check ng yahoo mail. pero after a few days babalik ulet sa full 4 bar signal, minsan 0~1 bar lang..tapos papalo ng 2bar then mawawala na naman. pero minsan lang mangyari..

Sun broadband is really the fastest here in Metro Manila. I’m also reaching that download speed w/ no disconnection.

Hey guys, experiencing same problem here. Cebu City area ako and the download rate is horrible. Got full bar signal but the connection is pretty bad. They blocked some peer to peer ports and I cant even download movies with torrents. Even regular download like a 12mb file takes forever. Browsing is average though.Hope somebody’s gonna fix this..Very disappointed with their service.I will never recommend them to anyone! I will surely harass them bout this issue sa office nila!

This might help others: My setup is sun usb 3g inserted on Edimax 3G-6200n. Initially I experienced the disconnections so I emailed Edimax if there’s an auto-reconnect feature for their router. The answer is yes, with the new firmware that they attached. It’s version 2.12c while the one in their website is just 2.12. So I flashed my router and now I have 24×7 internet with infrequent slowdowns but no disconnection.

Just used the SBW that i got as a freebie from the laptop i bought. Im supposed to sell it to a friend of mine but since i heard good reviews i decided to use it due to the P50 unlimited. Inquired at the sun shop at shangri-la and the customer service told me that the signal in our area (quezon city welcome rotonda) is excellent. When i opened it the signal was great from 95-99%. But upon connecting to the server, it took them forever to open google and facebook and other sites. All in all 20 hours was used from the free 180 hours last weekend. Tried to call the hotline but was put on hold by more than 5 minutes. Used my smart bro alternately and the speed and connection was fast.
    No disconnections or hanging.
