I was at Sun Cellular last night to pay my bills, when I saw this announcement. Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband is now using 3.5G technology, and have a new post paid plan 1399.

Sun Wireless Broadband plan 1399 is offered at a Burstable speed of up to 3mbps. Now you can enjoy faster internet connection within Metro Manila. I am thinking of upgrading my account but haven’t decided yet. I don’t know if I can even upgrade it lol!

Aside from that, they are now offering a Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband modem compatible router. So now, you can create your own wi-fi network at home and enjoy total mobility while being online. It is available at PHP3,500 for 799 plans and PHP2,500 for new plan 1399.

I don’t know if I’m going to avail of this sun cellular broadband router, as of now, I’m still ok with using Internet connection sharing as our home wireless network.

Last Updated: 02/26/2011
I am a Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband postpaid subscriber for almost 2 years now (as indicated by the create date of this post). I decided to update this entry since most of the information is kinda outdated. Given that, here is my complete review of Sun Cellular wireless broadband service.

Sun Broadband Wireless Postpaid Plan

I initially availed the easy broadband plan, which I paid PHP1895.00 (May 2009), but now the SBW modem only costs Php888.00 (Feb. 2011).

After a few months, I switched to SBW Plan 649 Bundle since I am a Sun postpaid line subscriber too.
Monthly fee – PHP 649.00 on top of Postpaid MSF
Burstable Speed – up to 2mbps
Internet Usage – Unlimited
Modem Charge: No Modem Charge
Holding Period: 12 Months

Sun Wireless Broadband Experience

SBW Installation

Installation is easy, just insert the Sun wireless broadband SIM into the card slot of the SBW USB dongle, plug the dongle into the USB interface of your computer, and the installation program will start.

Sun Broadband Wireless Installation

Just follow the screen prompt and follow the set up procedure that is included in the Sun Broadband wireless kit.

Connectivity and Speed

Here are some speed test comparisons of Smart Bro and Sun Broadband Wireless on different server locations (taken 05/14/2009):

Smart Bro - Makati City

Smart Bro - Quezon City

Sun BroadBand Wireless Speed Tests:

Sun Broadband Wireless - Makati City

Sun Broadband Wireless - Quezon City

As of the update date of this post, I can say that the internet speed is not the same as the above speed test results. There are times in a day where connection is super slow. Usually between 10am – 8pm. The connection is ok and a bit fast at night time until around 9am.

I am still bound with a contract until August if I’m not mistaken. Until then will I decide if I’ll stick with my Sun Cellular wireless broadband subscription or not.
